A day of progress - June 19, 2014

Today is from Dad's perspective.  Mimi has been trying really hard to not lose her sanity through all of this and I thought it might help to give her a break on the updating side... We will see if this is a help or if writing this stuff down is some sort of therapy.
Thank you for your prayers for Asa.  He has made tremendous progress and pretty much ahead of the doctor's expectations.  The doctor said it was okay to nurse this morning ("WHOOP!", says Asa) and within a few minutes Asa's GI tract kicked into gear with a healthy deposit into his diaper.  Several more followed which is very much something the doctors want to see.  Asa's epidural also shifted slightly out of his back such that the epidural meds were coming out of his back and not helping his pain relief.  So the pain management team removed it ahead of schedule.  Without the epidural, Asa's pain is managed with an oral med which he hates to take. Asa's electrolytes are correcting themselves. The intravenous fluids were reduced by half since he is nursing.  He also is much less swollen than he was the last two days.  The blood cultures drawn at Texas Children's Hospital have not shown any growth of anything.  This is great news.  We are still waiting on the final results of the blood culture from the local community hospital.
Please pray for a good night's rest for Asa and Mimi (and Annalisa who is there helping).  Pray for continued healing and opportunities to tell others how awesome God is and how He has used the gifts and talents of the Doctors, Nurses and Hospital staff to deliver His work.  Pray that as parents, we will everyday remember to love on all of our kiddos through this time where everything seems to be about a dear Asa. Pray for continued progress and an early release date.  (right now it is planned for Sunday)
Thankful for no Viruses and no Bacteria. No droplet precautions. No contact precautions.  No blue plastic gowns for every person who enters Asa's room.  Being able to see the happy doctor faces as they come to see Asa. Fuddruckers for lunch and Blue Bell for afternoon snack.  Asa had half a French fry.  Asa was all smiles about Blue Bell, our afternoon stroll around the floor and the great view!  Praising God for the great work He is doing through Asa and his condition.
