Clinic, coffee, and no appetite - May 29, 2014

Clinic.  Clinic.  And amazingly uneventful  today, without the long wait.  Took the troops in today to record a song for Asa in the oncology recording studio (a patient/family perk) while we sat with Asa in his appointment and let him sneak a little too much coffee, which didn't set well with his tummy.  Hey, he drank something!  Just didn't stay down.  Stripped him down to skivvies while we sat around waiting for weekly chemo watching bad cartoons with little people.

The verdict is that Asa's weight is not maintaining well.  We really feel it is likely due to chemo and things just not tasting right. He just won't eat.  Made faces about cornbread and syrup tonight. You'd think his father had fed him lemons.  Clearly coffee tastes okay since his pastime is stealing our cups and sneaking a sip too many, but babies cannot (and should not) live on breast milk and coffee and pack on needed weight.  If this doesn't improve by Monday, the docs feel we should move back to NG tube feedings to top off Asa's tank.  We don't have dates exactly on surgery yet, but think we are probably looking at soon after June 12th when Asa's counts have fully recovered.  Please be in prayer for both these items.  Pray that Asa's sense of taste and desire for food return.  No one wants to go back to NG tube.  Pray for Dr. V as he plans out Asa's surgery.  Pray that we be a good witness as we walk through these next steps to tumor removal with a new team.  Pray that surgery would be successful and simple both in OR and in days of recovery.  Pray Asa's central line holds up.  He's so active that we really have to guard it.  With just a surgery and two bouts of chemo left, we are counting down days to removing that line.

Thanks today for hubby who drives us through no fun traffic and deals with traffic and barfing babies and diaper blow outs in bumper to bumper messes. Thankful for kids who covered breakfast, lunch, and dinner and exercised with me, still laughing after long day at clinic.  Yay for drivers and jobs!  Thankful for happy giggles even if they don't involve food for now.
