Out in public - July 4, 2014

We broke out of pseudo-quarantine today since so many of us have had a bad cold anyhow and were already contaminated and ventured out on the Fourth to church activities.  Asa seemed to enjoy the time out and it was a reasonably pleasant evening where he shoveled mac and cheese and bounced from arm to arm in preference to the stroller.

We are still on for Monday for port placement, Tuesday for clinic, auditory screening, then inpatient chemo.  Asa woke up a little snotty today, though he was fine the rest of the day.  We will postpone chemo if he is not better or if any of us remain ill.  Please pray that this cold will lift.  It has really lingered for a few of us. Pray that we and the doctors have the proper wisdom to know when to proceed.  Pray for our endurance physically and as parents as we count down these 6 weeks.  It's really minor in comparison to what we've endured, but we are just ready to see Asa cross that line and be done.  Asa did cross the weight gain line today of 20 lbs.  Though we'd love to see more, this is significant because it's where we started 5 months ago.  Asa should weigh even more as a Barreras kiddo, but we feel this is the beginning of a healthy weight for him, a little fluff before we venture into chemo appetite briefly again.

Thanks today for dancing and giggling to music and fireworks.  Grateful for kids at church who made a nice evening for my kids who have been cooped up too long.  Happy to have strapping boys and a hard working husband who enjoy projects together some of the time.  Thankful for neck hugs and chocolate and good coffee in spite of my abilities.  Thankful that praying is free, even if things look dicey at times in the big world.
